Andy Tielman with Dee Ann and the Nightcaptains
On July 11th, the Annual Route 55 festival in Rotterdam The Netherlands had a line up of The Magic Strangers, Danny Verone, Dee Ann and the Nightcaptains and The Explosion Rockets. A band interviewed and reviewed bij Rockabilly-online already.
During the Dee Ann and the Nightcaptains show Andy Tielman (of the Indo Rock quartet The Tielman Brothers) arrived, accompanied by a police car in an oldtimer. Nobody was sure if he would make it to the festival as he is very ill, but he made it.
His wife and daughter joined him during the ceremonie of the Andy Tielman Award 2011, which was being presented for the first time this year. It is a motivational price to keep Rock and Roll in The Netherlands alive.
Rockabilly band Dee Ann and The Nightcaptains were very surprised and honored to be the ones to receive the award this year from Andy Tielman himself. The band was founded in 2007 and the members are: Dee Ann (vocals), Marc Burger (drums), Wim van der Heiden (guitar) en Marcel van den Berg (double bass).
They play covers of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Bill Haley, Janis Martin, etc… but they also write and play their own songs. They are working on their first cd.
