It’s cocktail time: Moulin Rouge

The Moulin Rouge is a cabaret built in 1889 by Joseph Oller. It is marked by the red windmill on its roof. The Moulin Rouge is best known as the spiritual birthplace of the modern form of the can-can dance. Originally introduced as a seductive dance by the courtesans who operated from the site, the can-can dance revue evolved into a form of entertainment of its own and led to the introduction of cabarets across Europe.

To get you worked up for some Can Can dancing, let’s mix a drink to losen the muscles:

Things You’ll Need:

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Crushed ice
  • 2 oz. apricot brandy
  • 1 oz. gin
  • 1/2 oz. lemon juice
  • 2 dashes grenadine syrup
  • Chilled cocktail glass
  • Maraschino cherry, for garnish

Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with crushed ice.

Add the apricot brandy, gin, lemon juice and grenadine syrup to the cocktail shaker. Cover the cocktail shaker and shake gently for 15 to 20 seconds. Don’t shake too hard, you’ll bruise the gin.

Strain the contents of the cocktail shaker into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish the drink with a maraschino cherry and serve right away.
