Photographer showcase: Jo Vallianatou

Posted by Dee-Ann On September - 22 - 2014

Photographer Jo Vallianatou was born in early 90’s. She studied photography and painting at Vivarte school of applied arts.
Jo: As a photographer i love the “alternative” style. Why I love 50’s?? Because it was a post war area full of optimism, beacause of the dresses and make-up! Of course because of Elvis and Hitchcock movies. Oh because of a 52’s Cadilac Sedan that I’m in love with. And finally I love 50’s because of the hair that Audrey Hepburn had and of course the “new look” of Christian Dior.

Rockabilly is taking over the Rotterdam (again)

Posted by Rocky On June - 21 - 2014

All of my 22 years here on earth I’ve lived in Rotterdam. I grew up with wild rockin’ stories about jivin’ in Jailhouse Place, and late nights at The Flaming Star. But those places are no more 🙁 So I traveled all over the country for party’s, thinking that rockabilly in Rotterdam is gone. Until the last few months!

It started with a event called “De Rotte Tiet”. In english, translates to ” the rotten titty”. But let me explain! The name came from a parody of The Titty Twister, from From Dusk Till Dawn! Born from the brains of Jesse van der Heijden and Dennis Klootwijk, the plan is to organize a party, where you can just be yourself. Guys can be just classy lads, girls can be pretty ladies! Not like the disco, hipster and hiphopin’ folk on the regular places. The evening is filled with dirty Rock’n’Roll and Rockabilly, boppin’ tracks! Hans Worst is there to still you’re hunger with sauce, right from the grill. You can have you’re picture taken! And it goes on till late! I know, because I spinned the wax there! I danced like crazy when I didn’t spin. But the best part, I saw the older generation rockers and the newer generation in one place! So I highly recommend to go there! And I Look forward to the next edition!

Long live King Cry Baby! Photoshoot at Ace Cafe London

Posted by Dee-Ann On June - 14 - 2013

I wrote earlier this year about one of my favorite movies “Cry Baby”. So I was more than happy excited that Lauren of “French Made London” http://www.frenchmade.co.uk/ told Rockabilly-Online about the Cry Baby inspired, rockabilly style bridal photo shoot that took place at Ace café London. I hope you enjoy the story and pictures as much as I do!

Kat Forsyth photography

I cannot even count how many times I have watched ‘Cry Baby’ as a teenager. What attracted me the most were its rebellious characters who managed to break their subculture taboos. On this 50’s inspired styled photo shoot, I wanted to recreate that spirit by not only including moody type tattooed models but also an unconventional bridal colour scheme. It’s now such an honour to present to you how this cast turned my vision into these bright, eye pleasing creations, brilliantly captured by Kat Forsyth photography and Piece of cake films at the iconic Ace Café in North London.

Rockin’ Rhythm Revue: Stephan Creutzburg photographer

Posted by Dee-Ann On October - 20 - 2012

Stephan Creutzburg

The Rockin’ Rhythm Revue will not be about music only, also a barber, vintage clothing and… a photographer: Stephan Creutzburg. We met him at the Hotrod Hayride UK, last summer. He’s eye for the right subject, at the right moment, angle and place is unique as I may say. It is easy to spot a dropdead gorgous pinup girl and shoot a picture right in her face or other high class qualified parts… but Stephan goes beyond that!

Tell us a little bit about yourself? Who are you?

Calabrese Show and CD Review

Posted by christinadeath On October - 16 - 2012

On Friday, October 12th, 2012, Calabrese came back for their
second tour to Chicago for their upcoming cd called, ” Dayglo
Necros”. Calabrese played to a fully packed crowd at the new
Ultra Lounge in Chicago and rocked all nite long. Balls out, hard
and strong and in our faces and ready to rock. This was the nite to
truely feel Halloween and have the ghouls come out and danse
and make their presence known. Calabrese were so happy to grace
Chicago again. You could truely feel the love, like a family to the dead.
They played old skool favourites such as, ” Everyday’s a Funeral “,
” Backseat of my Hearse “,”Zombie I “, and new songs too, the best of
both worlds. Theatrics throughout the show, from Davey showing his love
for Elvis and Bobby for Star Wars. Truely eye candy across the board. This
band never misses a trick and leaves you with a treat. It was an invitation for
the dead to rise and rock. “Dayglo Necros “, is the new album and it stays in
true Calabrese fashion. We begin with , Track one, ” The Dead don’t Rise ” and
Davey sings about the ” Dying Planet and the ” Black Hole pulling the Sun “. Truely
in apocalyptic tales of what we are facing and how the dead don’t rise. Hard
edged guitars, strumming in unison, setting the tempo and three counterparts
merge in harmony and action. Sporting vampire fashion to the letter, setting
the tempo for us to move and groove and ” skelebrate ” life as we know it
to the best of our ability and hope for this dark future. Progressing on through
this reviewing journey we come to track three, ” Heart Posssesion “,which is
a heart pulling at the strings lilttle dark diddy that rocked and wrecked and clenched
hard and didn’t let go. Davey is the lyricist and truely brings forth the tales of woe,
pomp and circumstance in death fashion. Whether we like it or not, it is there to
hold dear and run with it and never forget the message that lies underneath the
floorboards. We move on to track Six, ” She hasn’t been Herself in Years “, which is
truely memorable and hardcore to the core. Davey sings, ” Try to take back her soul “,
” She hasn’t been Herself in Years”, a tale of a little lost girl, truely lost to the devil.
I could see this track in a horror movie score and dansefloor. Calabrese is about dancing,
drinking and toasting to the dead. They rock, never disappoint and deliever. The rest of
the album leaves, uniqueness, intrigue and inspiration track after track. Calabrese is
back in black and better then ever and this time the dead will rise to their occasion and
danse to the beat of the big “C” ~ 3 things to remember, Collars up, fists raised and
be one of us . ~ 4 stars Christina Death

One year ago I interviewed Israeli pinup K von Curve. She has her own pinup clothes online shop and is always busy with the pinup lifestyle. Now she has a new project I am very excited about. I’ll let her do the talking:

K von Curve: I met Yaniv while he was volunteering for a huge project to raise money and awareness for animals. He was taking pictures of celebrities with dogs who are waiting for adoption and other people with their adopted animals, I was one of those people.

Lonestar Round-up 2011

Posted by drew On April - 13 - 2011

I was pulling double (maybe even triple?) duty this year at Austin’s annual celebration of sex, hot rods, and rock ‘n’ roll.  I was there to help promote my own event, the Spring Shock Hop.  I was also there to observe the yearly insanity and report it back here at Rockabilly Online. This year being the ten year mark, made my trek through the cars and the carnage a nostalgic one.  I remember when they could fit the whole Roundup in a High School foot ball stadium.  Now it’s grown into something that rivals even the mighty “Viva Las Vegas” out west.  As a Texan, it’s hard for me not to be proud.

Showgirl Adventure: Local talent!

Posted by RubyJoule On January - 11 - 2011

Well, I had several adventures picked out for your amusement today, but all of my notes are back at Maison de Ruby, and I am holed up at the Ritz-Carlton in Dallas, waiting out a winter storm. Admittedly, things could be worse! But we’ll save that adventure for another time.  Instead, I would love to introduce you to some amazingly talented people I have the pleasure of working with lately…

Steve DeMent is one of Austin’s premiere live burlesque photographers.  After establishing himself as an official league photographer for the Texas Rollergirls roller derby, he expanded into shooting live burlesque shows.  He was inspired in part by the iconic photo book, “The Velvet Hammer Burlesque,” chronicling the LA burlesque troupe of the same name.  Steve began shooting performances by my troupe, The Jigglewatts, in 2007 and has been a staple on the Austin burlesque scene ever since.
