Tijuana Prison Band

I not only like to review bands that already have a name in the rockabilly world, but also promote bands that are just starting. I got a email from such a band, called tiuanaprisonbandbijlage the Tijuana Prison Band from Belgium. They just recorded a CD with mostly covers of the 50’s. They got my attention when he said “covers of Ray Campi and such”!

So I inserted the CD. I heard a nice heavy rockabilly cover from “Hot Rock” by Johnny Caroll (1956). I liked what I was hearing!  When I continued, I heard nice covers of big hits like Black Slacks (originally by The Sparkletones, also covered by Matchbox).  Also covers from rockers like Eddie Cochran’s Am I Blue and Wayne walkers Al I Can Do Is Cry are on the album, all very nice covered by them.  The cover by Ray Campi is just awesome, with a lot of slappin’ bass and a raw voice! To top it of there’s a cover of JD McPherson “Scandalous” for the jiving pleasure, and a cover from johnny Burnette’s “All By Myself”.tiuanaprisonbandbijlage2

Conclusion: They all covered this oldies but goodies with more bass and guitar. I loved it, it’s a good Rockin’ album and I’m curious how their own material is going to sound like!
