As previously announced on this website (https://www.karto.nl/?p=6057#more-6057), Elvis The concert 2011 was organized on May 1st in Tilburg (NL). And Rockabilly-online has been here to experience and report this. This is of course no punishment, because I’m a big Elvis fan; it’s always fun to join such an event.
Elvis The concert 2011 is a completely new show and is part of a European tour, the performance in Tilburg was the only show for Elvis fans in the Netherlands and Belgium.
This concert is brought to the Netherlands by the Dutch/Belgian fanclub Elvis For Everyone http://www.elvisfanclub.nl/.

Upon arrival it was already very busy, it seems that the concert was totally sold out. Luckily I had VIP tickets so I didn’t have to worry about a good spot.
For those with a well filled wallet, could have fun with many Elvis CDs, videos and wannahaves.

The evening was opened by the most famous Rock ‘n’ Roll band from the Netherlands, The Explosion Rockets. Normally they have a diverse repertoire of Rock ‘n’ Roll music, but especially for this occasion they played Elvis songs from the early period.
The catching enthusiasm of the ever moving singer Ruud Kuijpers, was the perfect kick off this evening. The audience enjoyed it very very much and was willing to loudly sing One Night, in reward for a kiss from one of the band members. Who the lucky one was?? Well, that’s the question….
With an incredibly up-tempo version of All shook up the audience went completely wild and unfortunately too early came an end to this great opening. For sure, that the Rockets will have a lot of new fans!
After a short break, it was time for the headliner. The fan club was successful to contract  several well-known musicians from Elvis’ era the seventies. Bass player Duke Bardwell was part of the TCB band who accompanied Elvis in the seventies.Piano player Bobby Wood played together with Elvis during the legendary Memphis sessions which include the hits “Suspicious Minds” and “In The Ghetto”. Johnny Christopher on drums, accompanied the King during multiple studio sessions. The other band members were Chris Cosello on lead guitar and the only woman in the company was the dutch Sue Moreno. She is a very good background singer, but her solo version of the song Relax made the men go wild!Lead singer this evening was Robert Washington. He’s known as one of the best performers of Elvis’ work and with reverence and respect for The King, he is a born entertainer.
Unlike the usual shows with Elvis performers with many songs from the seventies, they had now chosen for totally different (lesser known) songs.
Robert is by far the best performer with live band I’ve seen so far. An incredible good voice, very close to Elvis’ voice, and an entertainer indeed. May I say a bit of a ‘funky’ Elvis?

There was much interaction with the audience and during the song Burning Love Robert even went dancing with the audience, and of course kept on singing, that’s the credit for a true artist.
An amazing show, I’ll remember it for a long time….
