The Explosion Rockets – 25 foot tappers and heartbreakers (CD review)

The Explosion Rockets, I don’t have to introduce them to the people in the Netherlands, the most famous Rock ’n Roll band in the country. For the other countries, it’s a pity you don’t live here.
They play the house down since 1985 and they have a large fan group that is present in all its activities. The line up is:
Ruud Kuijpers (vocals, see the interview earlier on Rockabilly-online https://www.karto.nl/?p=4925#more-4925), Thom Sens (guitar), Willy Dona (drums), Joop Devilee (solo guitar), Hank van Empel (bass) and Martien van Engelen (piano).
After the huge success of their latest CD named “Perfect for parties” (2008), it was a challenge to present another top album.
But they managed this in the form of their latest album “25 foot tappers and heart breakers”.
The band is inspired by the idols from the fifties and sixties and the album contains up-tempo  rock ‘n’ roll songs, ballads and instrumental songs from that period.

The CD starts with the song Believe what you say van Johnny Burnette. Most of you will know this song by Rickie Nelson. However, in this version with the vocals of Ruud, the song is even more refreshing.
Other up-tempo songs on the album are Tear it up (one of my favourites), Dynamite, Stood up, Baby won’t you come out tonight, You mostest girl; real foot tappers!

Luckily, the Elvis-songs aren’t missing on this album. The well-known song Mess of blues is very well played, but also the relatively unknown song In Your Arms (recorded by Elvis in 1961) is a masterpiece to listen to, especially because of the contribution of Cor Stolzenbach on saxophone.

The ballads on the CD are in one word brilliant, particularly Vision (a hit by Cliff Richard in the sixties). Very beautifully sung by Ruud together with the backing vocal group Sentimental Voices, goosebumps you’ll get!!
During the instrumental songs you can hear just how good this band is with their experience and music quality.
In short, a very good professional CD, both in variety and music presentation, a must have! The CD is available on http://www.explosionrockets.nl

If you want to join The Explosion Rockets at a party, you can see them live on stage as the support act of Jerry Lee Lewis!! on September 3, Beursgebouw in Eindhoven (NL) and as guest appearance at Elvis The Concert in 013 in Tilburg (NL). For other up-coming gigs check their website. You won’t regret it, party guaranteed!
