The first pinup picture I ever saw in my life was one of Jane Russell. I was stunned by her appearance in The Outlaw. I had a picture of her hanging in my bedroom. It seemed like she did not need any fancy clothes or a makeup- and hair artist to give her that sexy look. It was the look in her eyes, the way her body stood on her two legs and the way she spoke. Classy!
Jane was a pin-up girl in the 1940s and 1950s, but her film career had faded by the 1960s. “Why did I quit movies? Because I was getting too old! You couldn’t go on acting in those years if you were an actress over 30,” she said in an interview in 1999.
On March 1st, 2011 the world lost one beautiful pinup woman, but I’m glad we had her at all.
