Hoorn Rock ‘n’ Roll, a famed rock and roll party in the centre of the city of Hoorn, The Netherlands. I heard a lot of great things about this party, but i never went, though i had planned to go last year. To my disappointment i missed the party, and with that the Teddy Boy singer Yann the CorrupTED! So when I was asked to go, and one of the organizers  who also writes here one this site, asked me too, I didn’t have a choice 😉 So i got a ride and went there.

I went with some friends, and we first went to the Spunyboys, of course.  The first set was as energetic and powerful as every time i see them! He had a great arsenal of songs, including songs from Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran. He even played the great Sandy Ford’s song Oh What A Shame. ‘Especially for Rocky’, Remi(the singer) said, Sandy Ford being from the Teddy Boy band The Flying Saucers. Near the end of the first set we went for a stroll to see which band to go next. On the way I came by a lot of friends from all over the country 😀 We just walked from bar to bar and saw Gotta Go, The Rechords (good band!) and the 2-tones, before walking into El Rio Trio. Always good, the quartet from Amsterdam! Bopper had his new pinstriped bass and wasn’t scared to show it off.  And although the bar was small (all bars were), they played the roof from the joint again!

When their set was over, we decided to go to my friends from Rotterdam, HotRock. Good old fashioned Rock ‘n’ Roll, that is 😀 That’s the moment i realized i didn’t even went to the 50’s market to scroll to the vinyl 🙁 O well, I save it for D-Day anyway 😛 At the cafe where HotRock was playing, I saw my friends from the Lindy Hop city of Utrecht. We thought we would drink here for a bit.

Friends on the bar, during the Spunyboys 😀

We still had two sets to go, and we thought it would be best to go to the Spunyboys again. They weren’t playing for the moment, so i talked with Remi. Funny thing, he asked me about this website, and he thanked me for the article I wrote about him and the band.  Then he was taped on the shoulder by some girls who wanted his attention and he turned over and I didn’t blame him, I would do the same 😛 When he started playing, the joint was full again. They were awesome as ever, and it was fun to see some of my friends end up standing on the bar 😛

I hadn’t danced yet! But at the end of the party, being the last set at 21:00 hours, I went dancing with a girl from Friesland, while the strong and fast rockabilly from the Truly Lovers Trio was playing. For the last dance I Teddy Jived ( with small moving space) on Rock Around The Clock from the late great Bill Haley. But sometimes its time to go, every party has an end 🙁 So I said goodbye to (most of) my friends, and went back home. This was awesome, and I’m planning to go next year!

But first, i like to see you all at Dday, the 8th of June in the Cruise Inn in Amsterdam, no exceptions 😉
