After a couple of silent years 69 Beavershot played at the the Scum Bash festival earlier this year. They kinda picked up performing again, with drummer Rene. In July they were sharing stage with Bob Wayne, at the Baroeg. A dark and little venue in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Mostly alternative bands play there. Mostly hardrock, metal, but gradually Psychobilly, hillbilly is setteling at the Baroeg.
Guitar player Robert always has this great style of playing, inspired by Brian setzer, Scotty More, James Burton. His growling voice is just right for their kind of rough rockabilly. All their songs have titles you can easily sing and shout along with, like, red headed woman (my favorite although I’m not a red head), hell cat and speed track. 69Beavershot played their own originals as well as some covers. While guys sang along especially woman danced exotically in front of the stage. Is it because of their music or are they hoping Robert is giving them the eye?

Scum Bash Rotterdam, part 1
The men of Schorem, Haarsnijder en Barbier have been in the Dutch media a lot lately, being one of the few vintage styled barbers in The Netherlands. Clients lining up in front of their shop, they don’t mind waiting for one or two hours. Women are not allowed in, dogs are. Men with beards and moustaches everywhere, with the greasy haircut. Even at the university, grocery store, shopping mall. They’ve shot the hype into the mainstream world. Barbers loving the vintage style of the thirties forties and most of all music!
Leen and Bertus started the first Scumbash in Rotterdam on February 22nd, 2014. 14 bands on three stages, playing at the Van Nelle fabriek in Rotterdam (NL). It was like a North Sea Jazz festival for scum! And that’s a good thing. Loudness is the main criteria for being invited as a band.
Well not always. The Small Time Crooks, opened the festival. Four bearded men with tattoos from The Hague form a acoustic band, playing fun bluegrass, singing harmonies, kazoo and washboard included.
Hoorn Rock ‘n’ Roll Sunday Danceday
Hoorn Rock ‘n’ Roll, a famed rock and roll party in the centre of the city of Hoorn, The Netherlands. I heard a lot of great things about this party, but i never went, though i had planned to go last year. To my disappointment i missed the party, and with that the Teddy Boy singer Yann the CorrupTED! So when I was asked to go, and one of the organizers who also writes here one this site, asked me too, I didn’t have a choice 😉 So i got a ride and went there.

I went with some friends, and we first went to the Spunyboys, of course. The first set was as energetic and powerful as every time i see them! He had a great arsenal of songs, including songs from Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran. He even played the great Sandy Ford’s song Oh What A Shame. ‘Especially for Rocky’, Remi(the singer) said, Sandy Ford being from the Teddy Boy band The Flying Saucers. Near the end of the first set we went for a stroll to see which band to go next. On the way I came by a lot of friends from all over the country 😀 We just walked from bar to bar and saw Gotta Go, The Rechords (good band!) and the 2-tones, before walking into El Rio Trio. Always good, the quartet from Amsterdam! Bopper had his new pinstriped bass and wasn’t scared to show it off. And although the bar was small (all bars were), they played the roof from the joint again!
Lipstick on your Vinyl?
It was the last weekend of my vacation, and I just had my last dance lesson on Friday. And i thought that there was nothing to do, nowhere to go for a rockabilly party. But i heard through the grapevine that there was a boppin’ party going on in dB’s in Utrecht. So I looked it up. On the website I read that it was called “Boppin’ The Rock”, which is organized once in a few weeks. 3 Bands were playing that night. This time it was The Buckshots from Belgium, The Slapback Johnny’s from The Netherlands and The Whiskey Daredevils from the USA. And I found out some of my friends were going also, so I decided it was best to go too 😉

It was pretty much next to the station, but the door was on the other side. When i walked in I didn’t know where to go, I’ve never been here before. So i walked straight to the bar 😛 After waiting 20 minutes or so, the doors opened to see the band. The Buckshots were first up. They looked like a country/Rockabillyband, with a lovely female vocalist. After one song, my friends cam dripping in, one by one. They’ve been to dB’s before to see JD Mcpherson.
The Blue Cats live@the Rambler
The 14th of October 2012 will be noted as the day Rockabilly came back to Eindhoven. 
The last time the Blue Cats came over to Eindhoven must have been somewhere in the eighties, hell the last time they came to Holland was in the mid nineties. I sure hope i don’t have to wait another 20 years before they come back again.
The Rambler was packed with Rockers young and old, even verry young (glad to see some parents try to get rockabilly in at a young age).

Rockin’ and a rollin’ at Hemsby #48 day 1
Hemsby Beach
We arrived at Hemsby on Friday May 11th, at the Hemsby beach resort. It was a plain and simple holiday park with little wooden chalets (some called them sheds). It really was like we entered a village in the fifties. Men with quiffs, women in retro dresses and oldtimers parked in front of some of the houses. We stayed in a chalet, near the reahearsingroom/ chalet, so we heard some live music too during the day.
In the evening, we entered the main hall, with a big stage and a huge dancefloor. The English rock and roll scene is a balanced mix between young and old. In Europe there are mainly people between 20 and 50, but in the UK rock and roll diehards from 50 till 80 still go strong! And I mean dressed up very nicely, the dresses, hair, shoes, and dancing all night like there’s no tomorrow. The men mostly have the Teddyboy look, with sideburns, creepers and drapes. We couldn’t stop looking at the diversity of people. So nice to see.
Rambling with 49 Special
49 Special
I saw 49 Special on a Rock around Turnhout compilation DVD and was immediately amazed by their sound and songs. I bought their cd “Trails of Evil” as soon as I got my hands on one. I love the songs and also the cd sleeve. You can call their music, roots, country, rockabilly. This band from Portugal plays regularly in the Northern part of Europe, like Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. They just had a minitour, came back from Germany and “landed” on Eindhoven The Netherlands, to entertain us at The Rambler.

Two Alabama sisters were sitting in restaurant The Unie in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Just about to get ready for their live performance. Laura said it is their fifth time this year in Europe. Their performance at the Jools Holland show on the BBC, last year gave them great exposure and ever since they have been touring in both USA and Europe. Just the two of them, Laura, Lydia Rogers and one acoustic guitar. They like to keep it simple Laura said.
They just came back from a tour in Germany and Laura started to pick up some German words. Now she tries to pick up some Dutch words. She finds it interesting.

Didn’t know what to think, didn’t know what to expect in a certain way.. I knew for that Brian’s was gonna’ rip, that’s for sure. Having seen so many great artists in the recent past i thought i’d be less impressed as i was when i first saw him live with the Stray cats and BSO after that. More about the Riot later!

They were visiting Rotterdam, my hometown, so I decided to find out why those Canadians get all the attention Rockabilly-online has been giving them. The Exit (the name of the place where they were playing) was not as packed as I expected. Sad, because this band has a good name, but not so big yet in Rotterdam. But I hope that will change in the future.
The Reckless Ones @ Reggies Music Joint

On Saturday, May 7th, 2011, The Reckless Ones played at Reggies Music Joint in Chicago, Illinois and rocked like no other, giving it their all .
The Reckless Ones consists of Kevin O’Leary, lead singer and guitarist, Adam Boatright, Upright Bass and vocals and Dylan Patterson, drums and vocals. This was Rockabilly/ Psychobilly at it’s best and other bands that complimented them as well that consisted of , 13 Tikis, The Gravetones, Tracer Bullet and of course headlining, The Reckless Ones that came back like they always do and left no disappointment and lived up to their name. Rockin out tunes that left us dancing and wanting more.
Elvis The concert 2011
As previously announced on this website (https://www.karto.nl/?p=6057#more-6057), Elvis The concert 2011 was organized on May 1st in Tilburg (NL). And Rockabilly-online has been here to experience and report this. This is of course no punishment, because I’m a big Elvis fan; it’s always fun to join such an event.
Elvis The concert 2011 is a completely new show and is part of a European tour, the performance in Tilburg was the only show for Elvis fans in the Netherlands and Belgium.
This concert is brought to the Netherlands by the Dutch/Belgian fanclub Elvis For Everyone http://www.elvisfanclub.nl/.
Upon arrival it was already very busy, it seems that the concert was totally sold out. Luckily I had VIP tickets so I didn’t have to worry about a good spot.
For those with a well filled wallet, could have fun with many Elvis CDs, videos and wannahaves.

She was playing at Viva Las Vegas in Brendans, inside the Orleans Hotel and Casino. A pub with the perfect small, jazzy and cosy atmosphere for Vicky and her band The Big Beat.
The current players in Vicky Tafoya’s Big Beat are Matt Beld – Lead Guitar, George San Martin -Saxophone, Johnny Sosa – Drums, Vinny Malachi – Bass and her husband Vince Maldonado – Rhythm Guitar.
Lonestar Round-up 2011
I was pulling double (maybe even triple?) duty this year at Austin’s annual celebration of sex, hot rods, and rock ‘n’ roll. I was there to help promote my own event, the Spring Shock Hop. I was also there to observe the yearly insanity and report it back here at Rockabilly Online. This year being the ten year mark, made my trek through the cars and the carnage a nostalgic one. I remember when they could fit the whole Roundup in a High School foot ball stadium. Now it’s grown into something that rivals even the mighty “Viva Las Vegas” out west. As a Texan, it’s hard for me not to be proud.

Bluegrass Outlaw party
A brand new stage called Heidegger in Rotterdam (the Netherlands) opened up just 2 weeks ago. I decided to check the place out during the Bluegrass Outlaw Party.
Interior was punk and rock proof, loads of concrete wooden floor panels so a blind horse could’t do any damage inside (hope that’s an English expression. If not you catch my drift). There was a good crowd for a Wednesday night and great atmosphere and vibe. It al felt like a reunion as there where loads of familiar faces.
Fournicators was supposed to be the first band but could’t make it (wonder what they where doing).
